Comedy star Michael Che lashed out at the Oscars after Will Smith slapped Chris Rock.
“look. im not tryna make fun of hollywood,” he wrote. “im just saying, im frankly disappointed that the academy would just let will smith PHYSICALLY ATTACK a man, onstage, just because he didn’t like a joke! They then hand this guy a trophy, after his childish reactions! Then they gave him a STANDING OVALATION! It was like watching Hollywood and the Academy laud him for being dramatic. and thats wrong.”
Che has deleted all his posts.
Smith apologized and retracted his remarks on social media.
“Violence, in all its forms, is poisonous. It can be destructive. My behavior at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable. Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally,” he wrote.
WILL SMITH LOSE IT AT THE OSCARS
Chris, I would like to publicly apologise to you. I was not in line with the rules and I was wrong. I am embarrassed by my actions, which are not indicative the man I want. In a world of love, kindness, and compassion, violence is not permitted.”
