The world of social media erupted after hearing President Trump use a curse word to describe NFL players who continue to kneel during the national anthem. President Trump’s words came during a rally and were met with cheers from a packed crowd.
In the moments since his comments, social media has been filled with people condemning the President and calling his comments divisive and offensive. One person who has a particularly personal connection to the President’s comments has also spoken out.
Teresa Kaepernick is the mother of Colin Kaepernick. The world came to know Kaepernick as a household name after Colin started the “anthem kneeling protest” last season. He has since remained a topic of controversy for many.
In a recent interview with Deadspin, Teresa said President Trump’s comments were disappointing and played to racist people in his crowd of supporters.
"It’s always at his rallies, and he’s always pandering and playing to the crowd," she said. "There are a lot of racist people in that crowd, a lot of people that are just looking for something to get hyped about, and this is the kind of thing he does. It’s like a bully on a playground, I guess," she added.
Teresa also opened up about being protective of her son. Even though he’s an adult, her motherly instincts are still kicking in.
"As a mom, you’re protective of your kid," she said. "I grant you he’s a 29-year-old man, he doesn’t need my protection, but boy, somebody insults somebody you love, and your first instinct is to really wanna just go after him."
