Colin Kaepernick Breaks Silence After Facing Backlash for Controversial Nike Ad

Former star quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers, Colin Kaepernick, has recently resurfaced to the spotlight after being the center of a controversial Nike ad. Kaepernick first faced extensive backlash in 2016 after starting the national anthem protests. He, once again, came under fire after Nike featured him in a 2018 campaign ad, which portrayed him as a hero who “sacrificed everything.”

Americans boycotted the company by burning their Nike apparel. Additionally, Nike lost its partnership with Missouri’s College of the Ozarks and is at risk for losing its partnership with Christian college Liberty University.

Kaepernick initially stayed silent over the backlash. However, he finally appeared to respond via social media over the weekend.

On Twitter, he shared a photo of Miami Dolphins players Kenny Stills and Albert Wilson II kneeling during the national anthem ahead of Sunday’s game. He proudly supported the players, clearly not ashamed of his involvement in the Nike ad and the uproar it caused.

“My Brothers Kenny Stills and Albert Wilson II continue to show their unwavering strength by fighting for the oppressed!” Kaepernick stated. “They have not backed down, even when attacked and intimidated. Their courage will move the world forward!

“Love is at the root of our resistance!” the former football star ended.
