Sports Champion Praised for Going Against the Status Quo, Meets with President Trump at White House

Since President Donald Trump officially resided in the White House in 2017, his presidency has been deemed controversial. During what many would refer to as some of the most divided days in terms of politics, Trump often gets attacked by the mainstream media, Democratic politicians, and liberal celebrities.

One well-known tradition involving pop culture is sports champions having the rare opportunity to visit the White House and meet the President of the United States. However, during Trump’s presidency, a number of athletes opted out of the White House visit over politics — a move that conservatives felt greatly disrespected our President and our country.

Recently, the Golden State Warriors (NBA Champions) and Philadelphia Eagles (Super Bowl Champions) were disinvited to the White House after both teams refused to send the majority of their players. In 2017, several members of the New England Patriots (Super Bowl Champions) also skipped the White House visit.

However, one sports champion is turning heads after he went against the status quo. Colby Covington, UFC’s interim welterweight champion, proudly accepted his invitation to the White House.

The UFC champion shared the proud moment on social media. The photo shows Covington rocking a “Make America Great Again” hat, while Trump is holding Covington’s winning belt. The two both have big smiles on their faces — appearing to enjoy their time together.

“Like President Donald Trump always says: Promises made. Promises kept,” the UFC fighter stated. “Pleasure to finally meet you Mr. President. Thank you for always putting America first!”

“Making history at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. with The Commander in Chief,” Covington added in a later post.

Covington’s fans and Trump supporters praised him for partaking in the long-running White House tradition. Many were proud to see a professional athlete who supports America and President Trump.
