Mainstream Media Claims Republican U.S. Congressman About to Step Down

CNN is claiming that, according to its unnamed sources, a Republican U.S. congressman is about to announce that he's resigning.

According to CNN, Rep. Trent Franks (R-Ariz.) is expected to step down. Politico claims that a "Republican operative" told them the same thing.

Roll Call, which also had a source inform them about an impending Franks resignation, had more information to offer. According to them, Franks has refused to comment on the rumor but says he will talk to the press sometime on Thursday.

“We will have a statement a little bit later, but that’s all I can tell you right now. The statement will explain,” he told Roll Call.

As for a reason for his resignation, the media is pointing to "rumors of inappropriate behavior" on his part.

An unnamed Arizona Republican said, “There’s been rumors swirling around him for years, at least in 2012. And if this turns out to be true, there won’t be that many people who are surprised.”

Franks has been in Congress since 2002. He is a member of the International Religious Freedom Caucus and is a pro-life advocate. This story is still developing.
