According to the Hill, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) refused to hand over documents to Rep. Lamar Smith (R-Texas) and the Republicans of the House Science Committee.
Rep. Smith subpoenaed the research documents from the government agency because NOAA scientists have participated in a study concluding that there has not been a “pause” in global warming in which other research has shown that there has been a “pause” over the past 15 years.
NOAA refused to hand over the documents due to “confidentiality concerns” and the “integrity of the scientific process.”
Ciaran Clayton, Spokeswoman for the NOAA, said they “have provided data, all of which is publicly available online supporting scientific research, and multiple in-person briefings. We stand behind out scientists who conduct their work in an objective manner.”
Clayton had also suggested that the subpoena and inquiry into NOAA’s records was a political move. Rep. Smith agreed that it is a political inquiry. “It was inconvenient for this administration that climate data has clearly showed no warming for the past two decades. The American people have every right to be suspicious when NOAA alters data to get the politically correct results they want and then refuses to reveal how those decisions were made,” Smith said in a statement.
Do you think NOAA should hand over their research and records?
