On Monday, the world lost an inspirational young woman and YouTube star. Claire Wineland passed away after suffering a massive stroke a week after her double lung transplant. She was 21 years old.
At birth, Claire was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis. While she spent about a quarter of her life fighting the terrible disease, she also made it her mission to not let it define her. She shared her candid journey with the world and used her platform to encourage others facing difficult circumstances.
According to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, cystic fibrosis is a life-threatening and rare disorder that causes the cells that produce sweat and mucus to become thicker in organs such as the lungs.
A post on the Claire's Place Foundation Facebook page confirmed her passing while surrounded by her parents. Medical staff expressed that it was the most peaceful passing they had ever witnessed.
“Claire was able to save the life of two people, her right kidney was transplanted to a 44-year-old woman in San Diego, and her left kidney was transplanted to a 55-year-old male in Northern California,” Melissa Yeager shared with CNN. “Also, Claire’s corneas and tissue was recovered and she will be able to enhance the life of up to 50 people.”
Our prayers are with Claire's family during this difficult time, share your thoughts and prayers in the comments section of our Facebook page! In other recent news, a mom of late female singer has passed away just two years after daughter was murdered.
