On Tuesday Chrissy Teigen and husband John Legend made an unexpected announcement to America. Their family, which includes Luna Simone Stephens, is about to expand. The couple announced the pregnancy on Instagram, using Luna to help deliver the message.
“Luna, what’s in here?” Teigen said, pointing to her stomach.
“Baby!” Luna said in reply.
The news is a surprise for both Teigen and Legend. Teigen has been open about her struggles with infertility, according to E! News. In early October she shared her hope of having a second child through a frozen embryo transfer.
In speaking with InStyle, Teigen shared that she and Legend, when beginning the process of conceiving with their first child, started with 20 embryos. Through genetic testing, three of those embryos were deemed normal.
“The first little girl didn’t work,” said Teigen. “And then the second is Luna.”
In January 2017, Teigen revealed that their last embryo is a boy, although she denied at the time that she was yet pregnant. They saved that moment for now.
Teigen and Legend celebrated their fourth wedding anniversary on September 14. People spoke with legend about the pregnancy and Luna’s role in it.
“I have no idea,” said Legend, referring to Luna’s role as a big sister. “She is very sweet and she likes to share, so hopefully that will translate.”
