Murder Charges Officially Filed in Shanann Watts Case, Police Release Truly Tragic Update

Earlier this week, authorities from Frederick, Colorado were frantically searching for a pregnant mother of two — 34-year-old Shanann Watts — and her young daughters: Bella, 4, and Celeste, 3. Shanann’s husband, Chris Watts, publicly pleaded for help in finding his beloved family.

However, in an unexpected twist of events, Chris confessed to murdering his wife — who was 15 weeks pregnant with a baby boy named Niko — and their two girls. Chris also told authorities where the bodies could be found.

The suspect was immediately taken into custody, but charges were not officially filed until early Thursday afternoon. Chris was charged with three counts of first-degree murder and three counts of tampering with physical evidence, reported PEOPLE.

Shanann’s body was discovered. A spokesperson for the Colorado Bureau of Investigation also confirmed that they are in the process of recovering the bodies of the two little girls.

“It is with deep hurt, confusion and anger to confirm our beautiful cousin Shanann Watts, her unborn child, and her two angelic daughters, Bella (4), Celeste (3) were viciously murdered by husband Chris Watts; who confessed to the killings. Please keep Shanann’s parents and brother in your prayers,” the family said in a statement.

As of 4:00 PM ET on Thursday, a motive has not been released to the public. This story is developing and will be updated as more information becomes available.

Following the tragic update, neighbors and family members created a memorial display for the victims outside of their home. The memorial consisted of a large cross, flowers, and plush stuffed animals.

Please continue to pray for the Watts’ loved ones as they deal with this tragic news. In other breaking news, a heated argument about Aretha Franklin escalated into a shooting on the day of her death.
