On Monday, November 19, Chris Watts was finally sentenced after being charged with the murder of his pregnant wife and two young children. 34-year-old Shanann, 4-year-old Bella, and 3-year-old Celeste went missing in August.
Though Chris had pleaded for his family's safe return when the news was revealed that they were missing, it was later discovered that Chris himself had murdered them. For a while, Chris stuck to an absurd story about the reason for killing his wife.
Eventually, 33-year-old Watts admitted to all three murders. On November 6, he pleaded guilty to three counts of murder, two counts of murdering a child, one count of unlawful termination of a pregnancy, and three counts of tampering with a deceased human body.
Now, the judge has handed a sentence to Watts. The Colorado man was reportedly sentenced to life in prison.
Judge Marcelo Kopcow said, "I could objectively say this is perhaps the most inhumane and vicious crime that I have handled out of the thousands of cases I have seen. Nothing less than a maximum sentence would be appropriate."
In September after the charges had been confirmed, it was reported that Watts could potentially be facing the death penalty. This was after other disturbing news was revealed about the case, including the fact that Watts had been having an affair during the time of the murders and that he was more recently suffering severe depression in his jail cell. Ultimately, Watts was sentenced to life in prison rather than the death penalty.
Please continue praying for Shanann's family during this time. What do you think about the life-in-prison sentence for Chris Watts? Let us know your thoughts. In other recent news, the world's most popular dress shop just filed for bankruptcy.
