On Friday morning, the tragic news broke that a beloved KTLA anchor had passed away.
The man, later identified as Chris Burrous, was found unconscious at a Los Angeles, California, motel on Thursday afternoon. He later died, according to reports.
Police were called to a Days Inn in Los Angeles and found 43-year-old Chris Burrous passed out and not breathing, reported Inside Edition. They performed lifesaving measures and rushed him to a hospital, but he later died.
Burrous' cause of death is being investigated. CBS News reported that police originally called his death a potential overdose.
In a statement, police said they realize the sensitivity of the case.
"That was something that we recognized right away, because, you know, everybody knows Chris. So we knew that this was gonna be something that was gonna be a very sensitive matter," Glendale police Sgt. Dan Suttles said. "We're waiting for a toxicology report to come back from the coroner's office."
Suttles added, "Until we get that we won't be able to tell what the cause of death was. It is being investigated as a possible overdose."
Burrous had been working at KTLA since 2011. The station issued a statement after his death.
"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Burrous family," KTLA President Don Corsini and News Director Jason Ball said in a joint statement.
His fellow news anchors flooded to Twitter to mourn his passing.
Lynette Romero wrote, "There are no words. When we took this picture during our show I had no idea it would our last time together. You made me laugh until I cried. My tears now are for your sweet little girl, your wife Mai and your dear parents. We will miss you so..."
Sam Rubin, another KTLA anchor, wrote, "Here's the thing. This is awful. Heartbreaking and horrible. What Chris Burrous did was connect - with all of us, every day, and most especially on the weekends. He deeply loved his wife and his daughter; and all of you who watched him. A large community is in mourning tonight."
Burrous leaves behind a wife and a 9-year-old daughter. Please pray for them as they mourn his untimely passing.
