On Tuesday, April 24th, Chip and Joanna Gaines appeared on the TODAY show to talk about the release of Joanna’s new cookbook, Chip’s upcoming marathon race, and — of course — new details about baby number 5!
Joanna is reportedly due with the couple’s fifth child sometime in July. Fans were previously notified that the baby is a boy; however, Chip and Joanna have not yet decided on the baby’s name.
In March, Chip shared an adorable video on social media hinting that the couple was considering “D” names. Chip and Joanna’s older boys, 12-year-old Drake and 9-year-old Duke, both start with “D,” while both of their girls’ names start with an “E” (Ella and Emmie Kay).
On TODAY, Chip revealed that he really would like to continue a “D” trend with their boys’ names. However, Joanna has another thought — she would love for the baby’s name to start with a “C.”
The couple admitted to an ongoing battle of the sexes going on in the house before they knew the gender of baby number 5. Joanna and the daughters were “Team Girl,” while Chip and the sons were “Team Boy.”
“I say he got the boy, so I get to pick the name,” Joanna chuckled.
The two also opened up about the large age gap between their soon-to-be-born son and the rest of their children. Their current youngest child is 8 years old and their oldest is 13, leaving a a gap of 8-13 years between the baby and the older kiddos.
However, despite some concerns, Joanna is excited to have some extra helping hands with a newborn!
