A deadly school shooting occurred on Wednesday, killing at least 17 people and injuring many more. The gunman was a teenager at his former high school in Parkland, Florida, who has been charged with 17 counts of premeditated murder, according to NBC News

Authorities claimed that the suspect, who identified as 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz, was a former student who returned back to his old high school.

President Donald Trump responded to the shooting on Thursday by speaking directly to children across the nation, telling them that they should seek help if they feel lost, alone, or scared. Trump also stressed the need to address mental health issues in America.

"I want to speak now directly to America's children, especially those who feel lost alone confused or even scared. I want you to know that you are never alone, and you never will be," Trump said.

"You have people who care about you, who love you and who will do anything at all to protect you. If you need help, turn to a teacher, a family member, a local police officer or a faith leader. Answer hate with love. Answer cruelty with kindness," he said.

Meanwhile, according to The Hill, Chelsea Handler claims that Republicans have blood on their hands in the aftermath of Wednesday's shooting at a Florida high school.

Shortly after news broke that at least 17 people were killed in a shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., the comedian and former talk show host tweeted that we need to "elect candidates that are not funded by the NRA."

She continued, "We have the opportunity to elect candidates who won't allow kids to go to school and get shot. It is disgusting how many times this has happened and Republicans do nothing. You all have blood on your hands."

The Daily Caller writes that in December, Handler blamed President Trump for the wildfires that swept through parts of southern California after she was forced to evacuate from her house.

“Just evacuated my house,” she said. “It’s like Donald Trump is setting the world on fire. Literally and figuratively. Stay safe everyone. Dark times.”
