Recently, Grammy Award-winning hip-hop artist Chance the Rapper has been increasingly vocal about his faith. While the Christian has been vocal occasionally in the past, he took to social media this week to explain to his followers that he has experienced a disconnect in his walk of faith.
Chance became vulnerable on social media, talking about how he hasn't been intentional in reading the Word of God. He said that he wants to make a change in his life.
Last week, the rapper posted a photo of his morning devotional. According to Christian Headlines, it is an excerpt from John Baillie's "A Diary of Private Prayer."
The photo of the prayer was posted shortly after the entertainer announced that he would be leaving for his first sabbatical.
Chance wrote, "I'm on a plane headed out of the country for my first sabbatical. I'm going away to learn the Word of God which I am admittedly very unfamiliar with. I've been brought up by my family to know Christ but I haven't taken it upon myself to really just take a couple days and read my Bible."
He continued, "We all quote scripture and tell each other what God likes and doesn't like but how much time do we spend as followers of Jesus to really just read and KNOW his Word. I'm definitely guilty of not devoting my time to it."
Not only does Chance want to get to know the Bible better, but he has also invited his followers along with him! He posted an excerpt from Galatians and asked his followers if anyone wanted to read through the book with him.
A few days after letting his audience know about his decision to more intentionally pursue the Word of God, Chance gave everyone an update on how it was going.
He wrote, "Otw to the second half of sabbatical. I read Romans, James and Galatians and I'm currently on day 4 of ZERO CIGARETTES. I feel really good right now, thank u Father. #leaveitatthealter"
A week after posting about his decision to pursue the Word of God more, Chance posted an update. He posted an excerpt from Ephesians 3 and said that it was his seventh day without cigarettes!
