Root, root, root! Over the years, plenty of celebrities have revealed themselves to be huge baseball fans — throwing the first pitch at games or hanging out in the stands during date night.
In June 2021, Emma StoneHer husband, Dave McCaryMcCary enjoyed a Padres match on a rare date night. McCary is a “lifelong Padres fan,” according to the announcer at a September 2017 game where he threw the first pitch.
“La La Land…Naaahhhh… More like, Padre Land! We are grateful to Emma Stone and David McCary, her husband, for coming by the booth. It was truly an honor! Go Padres #bestactress,” the Padres’ TV analyst Mark Grant wrote via Twitter after meeting the couple, pairing his caption with a picture of them hanging out in his private booth.
Some celebrities have gone one step further with their baseball dates. October 2013 Kanye WestHe proposed to his now-ex-wife, a top-secret plan Kim Kardashian, at AT&T Stadium, the home of the San Francisco Giants. The rapper popped the question by setting up the Jumbotron to read “PLEEEASE MARRY MEEE!”
“It was magical,” a source told Us WeeklyIt was at that time. “It was the most romantic thing ever — the ultimate surprise!”
Another love story had baseball as the star. Kate UptonHer husband, Justin VerlanderThey met in February 2012 while filming a commercial about Major League Baseball 2K12
“It’s been such an incredible decade! It’s been an incredible decade! Being married to my best friend and starting a family have been the greatest gifts ever! Nothing tops that,” Verlander, a pitcher for the Astros, wrote via Instagram in December 2019 as he reflected on how love and baseball had impacted his life. “On the field … winning a championship, throwing a couple no hitters and winning a few awards along the way has been an incredible journey. Friendships formed or renewed over the past decade will last for many decades. Truly blessed 🙏🏻🙏🏻.”
Baseball also loves the stars. After Jennifer Lopez was spotted hanging out with her ex — and noted Red Sox superfan — Ben Affleck in May 2021, the team reached out to let the “I’m Real” singer know she was welcome back in the bleachers anytime.
“Miss you, J-Lo ❤️,” the Red Sox wrote via TikTok. “We will never forget you. Please return soon. “
The baseball-based convo surrounding the couple continued when Lopez’s ex, Alex Rodriguez, was questioned about the Hustlers actress’ reunion with the Argo producer.
“Go Yankees,” the longtime MLB star cheekily told TMZ at the time. While his comment may have been an innocent nod at his former team, it might’ve also been a playful dig at Affleck’s beloved Boston team — a.k.a. the Yankees’ biggest rivals.
