Over the weekend, news broke that a 22-year-old rising music star — Lonnie “Lil Lonnie” Taylor — was tragically killed in a Jackson, Mississippi shooting. Taylor was out driving when he was shot several times by an unidentified suspect.
Taylor was well-known in his Mississippi hometown but was also well on his way to national fame. In 2015, his song “Colors” made him recognized in other states.
According to USA Today, Taylor had previously worked with other top artists in the industry such as Jack Thriller, 50 Cent, and Lil Boosie.
Several celebrities paid a tribute to the young music star on social media including 1990s rap artist LL Cool J, rapper Juicy J, award-nominated hip-hop artist DJ Scream, college football player for Mississippi State University Jamal Peters, and several others.
Taylor’s fans were also devastated by the heartbreaking news. Ahead of confirmation of his death, many fans were praying that he would pull through.
