A tragic story has emerged out of New Albany, Ohio. Former Catholic priest James Csaszar died from suicide on Wednesday, December 20th.
44-year-old Csaszar worked at the Church of the Resurrection up until November of 2017. According to the Chicago Tribune, he was placed on administrative leave and put under investigation after misconduct allegations surfaced.
He reportedly jumped out of an 82-story skyscraper, the Radisson Blu Aqua Hotel, in Chicago—hundreds of miles away from his home. Despite the tragic news, the investigation will continue.
Before his death, suspicions arose that he was having inappropriate communications with a minor. In a statement released by the church, “questionable” texts and telephone conversations were discovered.
Additionally, Csaszar was potentially misusing church funds.
The church released a statement, which read, “It is with deep shock and sadness that we have learned of the death of Father James Csaszar, pastor of the Church of the Resurrection in New Albany, who took his own life yesterday in Chicago. On November 7, Father Csaszar was placed on an administrative leave by the Diocese of Columbus after diocesan officials were made aware of excessive and questionable text and telephone communications with a minor and potential misuse of church funds while serving as pastor of St. Rose Parish, New Lexington,” the rep said, assuring the investigation would continue in Ohio.
It continued, “We are reminded throughout sacred scripture that God our Father is loving, merciful, compassionate and forgiving. We also know that in his years of priestly ministry Fr. Csaszar did many good things for the people that he served in his parish assignments. And so we ask that everyone pray for Father Csaszar, his family, friends, and parishioners during this most difficult time.”
