Casey Anthony's Former Lawyer Faces Prison Time For Cocaine Trafficking

A jury found Todd Macaluso, 55, guilty of a conspiracy to distribute cocaine internationally. Macaluso is known as the former lawyer for Casey Anthony.

Prosecutors claim that Macaluso planned to ship over 3,000 pounds of cocaine from Ecuador to Honduras on his private plane. Once they arrived in Honduras, the lawyer then planned to smuggle the drugs into the United States. Federal agents believe that the drugs would be worth about $13 million. The lawyer himself would have made $185,000 by completing the elaborate smuggling operation, according to Breitbart News.

The lawyer faces anywhere from three years to life in prison. He will be officially sentenced on February 16. He had been arrested and disbarred last November in Haiti as he was finishing a smuggling plot with two other men.

The New York Daily reports that jurors in Brooklyn federal court deliberated about the fate of the lawyer for just over an hour on Friday before finding him guilty.

Macaluso was Anthony's lawyer for almost a year between 2009 and 2010. The Florida mother was acquitted of murdering her 2-year-old daughter in 2011.

His lawyer claims that Macaluso "looks forward to being vindicated in future proceedings."
