Carrie Underwood opened up about her facial injury in a TV interview. For months Underwood tried to remain out of the spotlight as she recovered from the incident that left her with a broken wrist and roughly 40 stitches.
According to Fox News, Underwood wasn't entirely sure how she was going to recover from a "frightening fall" outside of her Nashville home in November.
“In addition to breaking my wrist, I somehow managed to injure my face as well. I’ll spare you the gruesome details, but when I came out of surgery the night of my fall, the doctor told [Underwood’s husband] Mike that he had put between 40 and 50 stitches in,” Underwood wrote in the January blog post.
According to Underwood, the fall occurred after she missed a step while going outside to walk her dogs. It was, she says, something that could have happened to anybody.
"I just fell. I just tripped taking my dogs out to do their business," she explained. "I say if I'd fallen anywhere else it wouldn't have been a problem, but there was just one little step that I went to catch myself on, and I missed."
Underwood then laid on the ground while her 3-year-old son, Isiah, remained upstairs. Soon thereafter she was rushed to the hospital where she recovered away from the public spotlight. Her spouse, Mike Fisher, made the effort to fly to Nashville to be with her. The recovery was slow, but she is now getting "back to normal" and is happy to break her silence.
Fans were first able to view Underwood's face during her brief performance at the Academy of Country Music Awards on April 15. She claimed that the accident left her looking a little bit different, although no visible scars can be seen on the singer's face.
Underwood has been the center of media headlines after suffering a serious fall last year. After the fall, Underwood announced that she will likely look a bit different after the recovery, and fans were curious about what her face looked like.
Last month, Underwood released an uplifting health update.
“Physically, I’m doing pretty darn good these days! My wrist is almost back to normal, about 90% there…and the docs say that last 10% will come in time,” Underwood stated. “And my face has been healing pretty nicely as well. I definitely feel more like myself than I have in a while.”
Underwood apparently took time off to write and record new songs. Her newest single came out on April 11.
