Fans of the "The Godfather" are in mourning this week after some sad news was confirmed. Carmine Caridi, a beloved actor, has passed away at the age of 85.

Caridi acted as Carmine Rosato in the first sequel of "The Godfather." According to TMZ, the actor was hospitalized at Cedars-Sinai hospital in L.A. in April after taking a "nasty fall." After nearly a month, he became ill with pneumonia.

The news site reported that doctors had told the actor he could go home over the weekend. However, on Saturday, his health began to rapidly decline.

Throughout his acting career, Caridi appeared in over 100 TV and film credits. Some of his most notable roles were in "Starsky and Hutch,"  "Taxi," "Fame," and "Simon & Simon." Additionally, he acted as Det. Vince Gotelli in "NYPD Blue."

After appearing in the first sequel for "The Godfather" as Carmine Rosato, he appeared in "The Godfather Part III"  in a different capacity. He played Albert Volpe in that film. According to AOL, he is one of three actors to have two different roles within the film franchise.

Carmine received a plethora of attention during the 2018 Oscars as well. He had been expelled from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for the time that he shared movie screeners in '04. During the 2018 Oscars, Jimmy Kimmel made Caridi the butt of his joke.

Following the actor's death, several people talked about how much of an impact Caridi had on this earth.

Lee Curreri wrote, "RIP to my TV Dad, Carmine Caridi. You will be sorely missed."
