A tragedy took place over the weekend in a popular tourist area in Cancun, Mexico. A nightclub shooting left at least 5 people dead and 5 others injured.
The death toll may rise in the upcoming days. Two of the 5 who were injured were reportedly in critical condition as of Sunday, February 17th.
Four gunmen opened fire inside of La Kuka, a club just a few miles outside of the seaside tourist hotel zone, on Saturday reported Fox News. The motive for the shooting is unclear.
It is likely that the shooting was targeted in relation to a drug or gang-related scenario. Over the past few years, criminal violence has rapidly increased since the Jalisco New Generation cartel moved into the Caribbean resort city, stated Fox.
According to Business Fast, it is still considered safe to travel to certain tourist destinations in Mexico.
