On Sunday, April 15th, the public learned that the Bush family was dealing with heart-wrenching news. One of their beloved family members — former first lady Barbara Bush — was reported to be in “failing health."
Unfortunately, Barbara, 92, passed away on Tuesday, April 17th, confirmed the Washington Post. She was reportedly battling chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and congestive heart failure prior to her death.
Barbara had several hospitalizations recently, reported Fox News. Earlier this week, her family announced that she would not be seeking additional medical treatment, but would focus on comfort care — medical care focusing on easing pain and improving happiness that takes place near the end of someone’s life.
“Following a recent series of hospitalizations, and after consulting her family and doctors, Mrs. Bush, now age 92, has decided not to seek additional medical treatment and will instead focus on comfort care,” a spokesperson for the family stated on Sunday. “It will not surprise those who know her that Barbara Bush has been a rock in the face of her failing health, worrying not for herself — thanks to her abiding faith — but for others.”
“She is surrounded by a family she adores, and appreciates the many kind messages and especially the prayers she is receiving,” the spokesperson continued.
Barbara’s 93-year-old husband, former president George HW Bush, was also hospitalized for pneumonia last year. Thankfully, he received treatment and recovered well, but concerns have since been raised about his health due to his old age.
The proud American couple has been married since 1945. The two share 6 children together: Jeb Bush, Dorothy Bush Koch, Neil Bush, Marvin Bush, Robin Bush, and former president George W. Bush.
Many paid a tribute to the former first lady via social media including Al Gore and Rep. Steve Scalise.
Currently, few details are known. This story is developing and will be updated as more information is released to the public.
Please keep the Bush family in your prayers during this difficult time. May Barbara Bush rest in peace! In other recent news, David Hogg was mocked for calling a boycott of two major companies.
