Earlier this month, the news was revealed that Britney Spears had checked into a mental health facility amid her father's health problems. She had previously announced that she was putting her career on hold in order to take care of her father.
Initial reports said that the star singer had been "overwhelmed by the weight of her father's health issues."
Following the news of Britney checking into a mental health facility, dozens of rumors began circulating the Internet. Many people claimed that she was being held against her will, and a hashtag called #FreeBritney went viral. According to reports, an email had been released that appeared to come from the singer saying she had been held against her will. However, she has now assured fans that it was a fake.
Now, Britney has taken to social media to address the rumors herself and to give an update on her mental health.
In her video she said, "Hi guys. Just checking in with all of you who are concerned about me. All is well. My family has been going through a lot of stress and anxiety lately so I just needed time to deal. But, don't worry, I'll be back very soon."
Britney's caption that accompanied the video was much more direct.
She wrote, "I wanted to say hi, because things that are being said have just gotten out of control!!! Wow!!! There's rumors, death threats to my family and my team, and just so many things crazy things being said. I am trying to take a moment for myself, but everything you read and hear."
She continued, "These fake emails everywhere were crafted by Sam Lutfi years ago...I did not write them. He was pretending to be me and communicating with my team with a fake email address. My situation is unique, but I promise I'm doing what's best at this moment. You may not know this about me, but I am strong, and stand up for what I want!"
She concluded, "Your love and dedication is amazing, but what I need right now is a little bit of privacy to deal with all the hard things that life is throwing my way. If you could do that, I would be forever grateful. Love you."
What do you think about Britney's request? Even though she said she had not written the email, some fans are not convinced. In other recent news, a Hollywood icon just died at the age of 101. Fans are remembering her most stunning moments on screen.
