A massive earthquake has just struck the famous Caribbean Islands on Tuesday night. According to multiple reports, a tsunami advisory warning has been put into effect.

The earthquake was recorded by the United States Geological Survey. They measured the magnitude of the quake at 7.8.

"A tsunami advisory is issued when a tsunami with the potential to generate strong currents or waves dangerous to those in or very near the water is imminent, expected, or occurring," according to the U.S. Tsunami Warning System operated by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

As of now, the islands affected by the advisory warning were limited to Puerto Rico and the U.S Virgin Islands. Forecasts stated that waves reaching 0.3 to 1 meter above tide level were possible for coastal areas.

"The earthquake rattled windows in the Honduran capital of Tegucigalpa roughly 323 miles to the east, but no damage was immediately reported," according to CNBC.
