Leave it to musicians and actors to comment on political and current events as if having a singing voice equates to being a voice of reason.
Bono appeared before a Senate subcommittee recently and according to WND, the rock star offered his solution to defeat ISIS. It involved making jokes about the terrorist group. If Islamic extremists laughed more and if people were to just laugh in the face of brutal terrorist attacks, ISIS would be defeated.
“I think comedy should be deployed to counter ISIS,” the U2 singer said. “It’s like, you speak violence, you speak their language. But you laugh at them when they are goose-stepping down the street and it takes away their power.”
Bono’s plan to get ISIS to laugh? “I’m suggesting that the Senate send in Amy Schumer, Chris Rock, and Sacha Baron Cohen,” Bono said. Incredulously, Bono said that he was “actually being serious.”
Bono also used his time in front of the Senate to declare that foreign aid should be seen as a form on national security instead of charity. Bono claimed that sending more and more aid to foreign countries would deter extremism.
