Billy Graham, one of the most successful Christian evangelists of all time, died in February at the age of 99, surrounded by loved ones. His last will and testament has been revealed to the public for the first time.
Graham’s message to his family – and to a larger extent those in the sphere of his influence – is centered on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. According to The Christian Post, in the document, Graham urges his family to uphold Jesus Christ no matter the cost and encourages them to seek a simple life of service for the kingdom.
"I ask my children and grandchildren to maintain and defend at all hazards at any cost of personal sacrifice the blessed doctrine of complete Atonement for sin through the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ once offered, and through that alone,” he writes.
“I urge all of you to walk with the Lord in a life of separation from the world and to keep eternal values in view," he adds.
He encourages his family to read the Bible on a daily basis and to seek Jesus as the only one through whom one can find salvation. He also reflects on his marriage with Ruth, heaping praise on her.
"I want to thank her for her years of devotion, love, faithfulness and sacrifice. Of all the people I have ever known, she was the greatest Christian," he writes.
Graham later states that 10 percent of his resources will go to “the Lord’s work,” as he had always espoused the call to tithe to the Lord. He reflects on his desire to live an immaterial life.
"I had very little in my early life to call my own — and in the first years of our marriage we had very little to live on,” he writes. “We never dreamed that we would be given so much.”
He adds, “We have tried to use our material blessings for the glory of God. We have always tried to keep a somewhat detached attitude from them. We never wanted our roots to be very deep in this world. Whether I have handled things properly or not, we will have to await the judgement at the Judgement Seat of Christ when all things will be revealed,” he writes.
The rest of the document goes into the legal aspects of Graham’s will. Please pray for Graham’s family as they adjust to a life without him, that they would remain focused on Jesus—and for the salvation of our great nation.
