Some devastating news was just confirmed out of Brockton, Massachusetts. The mayor of the city, Bill Carpenter, has unexpectedly passed away at the age of 62.
According to Enterprise, Carpenter just launched a re-election campaign for his fourth term. Sadly, he was found dead on Wednesday morning. He passed away after reportedly suffering from a heart condition.
Carpenter was first elected as mayor in 2013. He was re-elected two other times after his first two-year term. His campaign motto was "It takes a Carpenter to build a city."
Several people have taken to social media to mourn the sudden loss.
Fancisco Urena said, "I am saddened to learn of the passing of Brockton's Mayor Bill Carpenter. It was an honor to work with him in the prominent strides made for greater opportunities in housing and quality of life for Brockton's Veterans & their families. My condolences to his family & friends."
Charlie Baker said, "Our hearts go out to the family of Brockton Mayor Bill Carpenter, a deeply committed public servant who was dedicated to improving the lives of his neighbors. We join them and the entire community in mourning his passing."
