The well-known and well-loved actress Betty White has staked her claim as the female entertainer with the longest television career. She is best known for her starring roles on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" and the "Golden Girls."
White, 95, has had an incredible acting career for more than seven decades. As her 96th birthday approaches on January 17, she has shared with Parade Magazine her advice for a long and happy life.
The most important piece of advice she offers: stay positive!
“Enjoy life. Accentuate the positive, not the negative. It sounds so trite, but a lot of people will pick out something to complain about, rather than say, ‘Hey, that was great!’ It’s not hard to find great stuff if you look,” White said.
She discovered her love for the spotlight in the 1940's while she was a high school student. Although while in her twenties she was turned down for being "unphotogenic," she continued "plugging away" until her big break come when she starred on the live T.V. show "Hollywood on Television."
Over her 75 years of entertaining she has earned six Emmy awards and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. “I got an award for everything,” she says. “Inhaling, exhaling . . . I’ve been so spoiled rotten.”
Parade Magazine also went on to say more about her secrets for a good life stating that "she also loves vodka and hot dogs, 'probably in that order.'"
“I know it sounds corny, but I try to see the funny side and the upside, not the downside. I get bored with people who complain about this or that. It’s such a waste of time," White says about her positive outlook.
