Tim Bergling, known famously as the DJ Avicii, was found dead in the city of Muscat, Oman, on April 20. His passing rocked his fan base across the globe.
Last week, his family made a statement that the 28-year-old “could not go on any longer and wanted peace.” According to The Daily Mail, the letter, signed “The Family,” shared that Avicii was a “fragile artistic soul and a sensitive guy not made for the machinery he ended up in.”
The statement said further, “he truly battled thoughts about the Meaning, Life, Happiness. Now, he could not go on anymore. He wanted peace.”
According to TMZ, his cause of death has now been revealed. Multiple sources familiar with the circumstances surrounding his death share that Avicii took his own life.
More specifically, he died by a self-inflicted wound in which he used broken glass to cut himself. According to a TMZ source, he broke a bottle and used the glass to inflict the fatal wound. The cuts caused massive bleeding.
Originally from Sweden, Bergling gained global fame while touring countries across the world. He was nominated for several awards before officially retiring from music in 2016.
According to CNN, Avicii was previously diagnosed with acute pancreatitis due to excessive drinking and was known to have struggled with anxiety, assumingly due to his time in the limelight.
