3 Confirmed Dead in Terrorism, Hostage Incident as New Details Emerge

On Friday, March 23rd, a tragic situation emerged out of southern France. The suspect, a man who claimed allegiance to ISIS, held several hostages inside of a local supermarket.

As reported earlier, a police officer was shot on scene leaving him with a shoulder injury; the officer is not in a life-threatening condition. Authorities immediately cleared the area as they worked to get the situation under control.

The suspect first fired shots at a group of police officers who were on their way back from jogging, stated ABC News. Then, the suspect raced to Super U supermarket in a small town called Trebes, where he held the hostages. Thanks to local authorities, all of the hostages were eventually released.

Sadly, three people have been confirmed dead and several others were injured. The victims’ identities have not yet been released to the public.

The suspect was identified as Redouane Lakdim, 25. Prior to this attack, Lakdim was considered a "petty criminal" who participate in selling drugs; there was no indication that he was associated with the terrorist organization. The Independent reported that Lakdim was shot down by police amid the chaos.

According to a Fox News video, the suspect yelled “Allahu Akbar” at some point during the attack, which is an Islamic phrase that means “God is greater” or “God is the greatest.” ISIS did claim that the 25-year-old was one of their "soldiers."
