Former WWE superstar Ashley Massaro has passed away. The athlete also competed on "Survivor."
She passed away at only 39 at the time of her passing, reported TMZ. She died at a hospital in Suffolk County, NY on Thursday morning.
Initially, her cause of death was unreported. However, now it's come out that she committed suicide.
According to multiple sources, she was found after having hung herself. The 39-year-old was found unconscious inside of her Suffolk County, NY home early Thursday morning. She was transported to a nearby hospital where she was later pronounced dead, according to TMZ.
She is survived by her daughter, Alexa, 18. Alexa shared a heartbreaking tribute to her mother on social media. In an Instagram stories post, she shared her grief.
"I wish i could have gotten more recent pictures," Alexa, 18, captioned a photo of the pair smiling on a red carpet. "I love you mommy i want to wake up in your arms more than anything i want to give u a big hug please come back this cant be real."
Massaro is being laid to rest in Suffolk County. The WWE honored Massaro with a full screen "In Memory" slate on Sunday during the "Money in the Bank" pay-per-view event.
Massaro famously won the WWE's "2005 Raw Diva Search." Her win included a $250,000, 1-year contract.
Massaro appeared on "Survivor: China" in 2007. She was voted off in the second episode fo the series.
"We are saddened to learn of the tragic death of former WWE Superstar Ashley Massaro," WWE said in a statement.
"She performed in WWE from 2005-2008 and was beloved by her fellow Superstars and fans around the world. WWE offers its condolences to Ashley’s family and friends."
