American Rapper A$AP Rocky, 30 years old, has been imprisoned in Sweden for more than two weeks. According to ABC News, he was involved in a street fight but claimed to have acted in self-defense.
He is allegedly being held for being “suspected of aggravated assault.”
Shortly after a judge ruled the music artist would be detained until July 25th at least, President Donald Trump weighed in on the unusual case. After receiving appeals from several members of the African-American community, including hip-hop artist Kanye West, the President stepped in. First Lady Melania also reportedly approached her husband about helping him get back to the United States.
“Just spoke to Kanye West about his friend A$AP Rocky’s incarceration,” Trump revealed. “I will be calling the very talented Prime Minister of Sweden to see what we can do about helping A$AP Rocky. So many people would like to see this quickly resolved!”
Trump also addressed the situation when taking reporters’ questions at the White House: "A$AP Rocky is a situation in Sweden. Sweden's a great country and they're friends of mine, the leadership. And we are going to be calling, we'll be talking to them, we've already started and many, many members of the African-American community have called me — friends of mine, and said could you help?"
