ASAP Rocky is not siding Will Smith who was forced to resign as Academy President after slapping Chris Rock onto the stage.
“I love Will, Jada and Chris. They are the OGs. It is unfortunate that he degraded another Black man in front a bunch of people like that. But I do think that, like, it’s some built-up sh*t that probably wasn’t really targeted at Chris Rock. I don’t know. … Like what you said, it seems like it’s more than just a G.I. Smith will no longer have the ability to vote on Oscar-nominated performances and movies, but he could still be nominated.
“I have replied directly to the Academy’s disciplinary hearing notice. I will fully accept any and every consequence for my conduct. My actions at 94th Academy Awards presentation were shocking and painful. The statement says that I have hurt many people, including Chris and his family, as well, as many of my dear friends.
“I betrayed Academy trust. I denied other nominees and winners the opportunity to be recognized for their extraordinary work. I am heartbroken. I want to bring the attention back to those who are worthy of praise and allow the Academy’s incredible work to support creativity and artistic expression in film. I have decided to resign from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and accept any other consequences that may be imposed by the Board. Change is not easy. I will continue to work hard to make sure that violence does not overtake reason.
