Police are looking for the man suspected of killing President George H.W. Bush’s former cardiologist. They believe he may have targeted the surgeon because his mother had died on the man's operating table two decades ago.

According to NBC News, a manhunt is underway for the suspect, Joseph James Pappas, 65, who is accused of shooting Mark Hausknecht, 65, on July 20. Pappas is to be considered armed, dangerous, and potentially suicidal.

"This absolutely is the killer," said the Houston police.

Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo said, "There was a lot of planning that went into this. There was a lot of planning and, sadly, some skill."

When the police began investigating, they found that Pappas may suicidal based on text messages that he had sent. They found him via a tip they received on Tuesday.

Police say they were able to identify Pappas, “thanks to the fact that we have a community that’s cooperative, that is a partner, that understands that they have a responsibility to play a huge role in keeping our neighborhoods safe."

They found him by examining home security video. They also received a tip about Pappas's mother dying on Hausknecht’s table.

"So it appears that this might be a 20-year-old grudge," Acevedo said.

"We also learned that the suspect had not been heard from by people that know him for over 24 hours and there is a text that he sent someone that said he was going to kill himself," the police chief added.

The police chief added, "While Houstonians can take comfort in the fact that we believe we know the identity of the suspected shooter, Joseph J. Pappas, he has not yet been located. I’m asking the public to continue to partner with police. Just as a tip led to his identity, we still need anyone with information on his whereabouts to come forward."

Hausknecht treated the first former President Bush for an irregular heartbeat in 2000 after Bush complained about lightheadedness, according to The Associated Press.

At the time of the shooting, the former president issued a statement via his spokesman Jim McGrath. In it, he expressed his sorrow.

The statement read,  “President George H.W. Bush was deeply saddened by the tragic circumstances surrounding the untimely passing of Dr. Mark Hausknecht in Houston earlier today, and 41 sends his most sincere condolences to the Hausknecht family, his colleagues at Houston Methodist- and his friends.”

Former President Bush said, “Mark was a fantastic cardiologist and a good man. I will always be grateful for his exceptional, compassionate care. His family is in our prayers.”

Please pray that this man is found so that there can be justice for Hausknecht's family. In other news, the FDA has recalled a common heart and blood pressure medication because it causes cancer. This recall only gets more serious as we learn more. Please pray for everyone who has been taking this drug. The recall could impact anyone with heart problems.
