UPDATE: Child remains were found later on Saturday. Please read the most updated story here.

3-year-old Mariah Woods from North Carolina still has not been found as of Saturday morning, December 2nd. She was initially reported missing on Monday morning, sparking a nationwide search for the young child.

Mariah’s mother reportedly checked on the child, who has a walking disability, Sunday evening around 11:00 PM, then her boyfriend checked on the child around midnight. The next morning when they woke up, she was gone.

Authorities first discovered that the back door was unlocked and originally believed that the 3-year-old was abducted from her bedroom. However, early Saturday morning, authorities announced that an arrest was made in connection to the Mariah Woods investigation, believing this to now potentially be a homicide.

The boyfriend of Mariah’s mother, Earl Kimery, was detained on Friday in relation to the child’s disappearance, reported New York Daily News. Their investigation reportedly led to police thinking Mariah is dead, despite the fact that she or her remains have not been found.

A statement was released that noted, “At this time, the location of Mariah is unknown. The searches now will shift to a recovery process.”

According to CBS News, Kimery is facing the following charges: concealing of death, obstruction of justice, second-degree burglary, felony larceny, and possession of stolen property. He is being held at the Onslow County Detention Center on $1.01 million bond.

Previously, Mariah’s biological father Alex Woods publicly stated his suspicions with the abduction story. After this newly released information, he may have been correct.

He stated, "Someone just walked right up in there, grabbed the 3-year-old out of the bed and she didn't cry, she didn't scream? Nobody heard anything? Four people in the house, two adults and two kids someone just comes up and snatches the baby and walks out?"

He continued, "I feel like there's something more to it and they're trying to cover it up," implying that the mother and/or boyfriend may be guilty and have something to do with their daughter's sudden disappearance.

"Honestly, I think her boyfriend got mad or Kristy got mad and Mariah woke up and was crying, fussing...they got mad because they got anger problems...and they might have smacked her...hurt her...maybe hurt her more than just a smack, maybe panicked, maybe done something bad with her. That's what we're thinking. The other two stories don't add up."

Please pray for this family during this difficult time. May God bring them comfort and peace. In other news, suicide tragically took the life of an elementary school student.
