On Friday, September 7th, young rapper and ex-boyfriend of award-winning singer Ariana Grande — Mac Miller (born Malcolm James McCormick) — tragically passed away at only 26. Authorities believe he died of a drug overdose, but the cause of death is still unknown as of Monday morning.
Grande stayed fairly silent on her late ex-boyfriend’s death until recently. Previously, she shared a black-and-white photo of Miller on her social media account but did not post an accompanying statement. However, over the weekend, Grande shared a tear-jerking tribute.
“I adored you from the day I met you when I was nineteen and I always will,” the superstar singer said. “I can’t believe you aren’t here anymore. I really can’t wrap my head around it. we talked about this. so many times. I’m so mad, I’m so sad I don’t know what to do.”
“You were my dearest friend. For so long. Above anything else,” Grande added. “I’m so sorry I couldn’t fix or take your pain away. I really wanted to. The kindest, sweetest soul with demons he never deserved. I hope you’re okay now. Rest.”
Grande’s heartfelt tribute comes shortly after she faced major backlash over his death. Fans previously blamed her for Miller’s alleged overdose, which led her to turn off her social media comments to avoid “hate mail.”
Please continue to pray for Miller’s loved ones as they cope with this difficult loss. May God bring them peace and comfort.
