On Monday, May 6, a new royal made his way into the world! Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had their first child.

Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor was born weighing 7lbs, 3oz. Fans around the world were overjoyed when the news was confirmed! Ever since Harry and Meghan’s royal wedding last spring, the world has been excited about the day that they would expand their family!

Now, that time has come. However, fans have been left with one question: where did their name choice come from? Prior to Archie’s birth, several names had circulated the Internet as options for the royal baby. Archie was not one of them.

Following the name announcement, many people said that the name Archie comes from one of Princess Diana’s former relatives, Archibald.

However, now, the Internet has a new theory of where the name came from! According to E-News, the name may have come from Meghan’s former pet!

According to reports, some of Meghan’s friends have said that the Duchess used to have a pet cat named Archie. They said that Meghan always loved that cat.

They said,  “Doria rescued Archie and he became an important part of the household. Meghan loved playing with him and she was always talking about him to her friends. It’s no surprise she named her new baby Archie. She loved that cat.”

They also noted that the cat was named by Meghan’s mother after the comic book character, Archie Comics.

Although this rumor has been swirling the Internet, fans are skeptical about the truth behind it. Some are saying that there is no real sentimental meaning behind Archie’s name and that the royal couple just liked it.

The name Archie means “brave,” so regardless of the origin of it, it has a powerful meaning!
