Last year, millions of fans across the globe took to the Internet to witness the birth of a baby giraffe named Tajiri in April. Now, April the Giraffe is pregnant with baby No. 5!
“The results are in and we are having a baby!” said park owner Jordan patch Wednesday morning.
Whether Tajiri is due for a brother or sister giraffe is yet to be determined. But the date of the arrival is already known.
“The average (gestation period) for a giraffe is 15 months,” said Patch, adding that for April, it could be “16, 17, 18 … 19 months.”
That means that in the spring of 2019, April could give birth to her new baby!
According to Today, the camera that live-streamed the birth of Tajiri is now live again, showing glimpses of April, father Oliver, and Tajiri enjoying the environs inside their enclosures.
Fans are sure to tune in, since last time, on April 21, April’s live stream had more than 232 million views total, and more than 1.2 million viewers watching the mammal give birth.
“Every calf counts,” said Patch. “Giraffe populations have declined 40 percent in the last 30 years, so every calf born in a captive management program means something.
So get your mobile devices and computers ready, because in the spring of 2019, we could witness another amazing birth in God’s kingdom!
