On Monday, June 17th American fashion icon Gloria Vanderbilt sadly passed away at 95 years old following a cancer battle. In addition to her successful modeling career, she was also widely recognized as the mother of CNN host Anderson Cooper.

After laying his beloved mom to rest, the journalist gave a touching tribute for his mother during Thursday evening’s show. The tribute, which honored his mom as a remarkable woman, also detailed the final days he spent with her before she died.

“Being able to spend those [last] nine days and nights with her was a great, great blessing,” Cooper recalled. "They were the most extraordinary days of my life and I'm very grateful."

"Though I was holding her hand and her head when she took her last breath, it's still a little hard for me to believe she's gone," he said tearfully.

Cooper also admitted that he was “very lonely” with her being gone, especially since she was the last member of his immediate family still alive: "Right now, things seem a lot less bright and magical without her." Cooper’s father and brother died several years ago.
