What a terrible nightmare. You go on vacation with friends and family, and instead of getting rest and relaxation, you get brutally attacked, left for dead.
That's what happened to Tammy Lawrence-Daley of Wilmington, Delaware, who shared on Facebook this Wednesday what happened to her while vacationing in the Dominican Republic. Lawrence-Daley was staying at the Majestic Elegance Resort with her husband and two friends. One night they got back late to their hotel after a seeing a show.
Lawrence-Daley and her group were hungry, so they called down to room service several times, only to find out they were no longer serving food, says USA Today. So she told her husband she was going down to the lounge to find food, but on the way, she saw the moon shining beautifully over the water and went to take a picture of it.
While she was on her way to capture the moon, Lawrence-Daley says she was attacked from behind by a man wearing the hotel's uniform. "As I went through the rotunda between buildings, I noticed there wasn’t anyone in the hallway," Lawrence-Daley shared on Facebook. "Not majorly odd, but still eerily quiet. I took about 10 or so steps just swinging my wristlet back and forth, not a care in the world.
"That's when I heard it. Heavy footsteps, one, two, three, four, then they sped up, and then before I could react I was plowed into from behind and immediately immobilized."
Wanting to spare the "gory details," Lawrence-Daley says she was strangled multiple times over the next eight hours, going in and out of consciousness.
"My lifeless body was drug down concrete stairs to an underground wastewater area," Lawrence-Daley wrote. "He disposed of my body into an area I refer to as the ‘hole.'
"I was unconscious multiple times during this savage attack, so I have no idea what else was done to me during that time. Somehow I survived. Again, I won't go into all of the hell that I went through being basically 'buried' in that hell hole for so many hours."
Lawrence-Daley's husband and friends asked the hotel management to search for her multiple times before they finally sent out a crew. "The security at Majestic Elegance thought I was drunk somewhere," Lawrence-Daley wrote.
Because she could not identify the attacker, the hotel is taking no responsibility for the attack. She had to spend 5 days in an off-site hospital, covering all of her own expenses and left with gruesome bruises and nerve damage.
"These attacks are happening too frequently and the criminals are NOT being prosecuted even though evidence is found," Lawrence-Daley said. "Victims are not being compensated for medical or pain and suffering, and the resorts are not held liable. Majestic Elegance didn't offer to reimburse us for our vacation, let alone my current medical bills. Litigation went nowhere. Stories are being squashed."
She posted pictures of her abuse and the details of her story on Facebook, which has been shared over 146,000 times. "This man thought he killed me, but he failed. He is still out there, a predator, waiting for his next victim. Only the next woman may not be so fortunate," warned Lawrence-Daley.
Wow, what a warning to any of us who want to travel abroad for vacation. We need to know the kinds of risks that are involved. What do you think of Lawrence-Daley's nightmare and her choice to share about it on Facebook? Share your thoughts and prayers for her in the comments! Thank you.
