As of this week, the most expensive house in America is for sale. The house will be familiar to those who watched “The Beverly Hillbillies,” as that is where it was first featured.
The house was owned by billionaire A. Jerrold Perenchio, who died a few months ago at the age of 86. The owner lived in the “Chartwell” estate for three decades, continually expanding its size.
The property for sale takes up 10.3 acres. The house itself is a 25,000 square-foot mansion built of limestone. It was constructed in 1933, inspired by 18th-century French Neoclassical design.
According to Time, the mansion features a ballroom, a wine cellar, a formal salon, and a period-paneled dining room. The property outside of the house is just as grand, including a tennis court, a guest house, manicured gardens, a 75-foot pool and poolhouse, and a parking area that fits 40 cars.
The original architect of the mansion was Sumner Spaulding. The expansion of the property was designed by Henri Samuel, who worked for other well-known clientele including the Vanderbilts, Rothschilds, and Valentino.
One of the final expansions that Perenchio made was acquiring the former home of Ronald and Nancy Reagan which was located across the street. He purchased that property for $15 million in June of 2016.
All of this can be yours for the whopping price of $350 million.
