In the last several years, Airbnb has completely disrupted the travel industry. Rather than spending a large amount on hotels that separate travelers from the authentic experience of a city, many people are opting to use Airbnb to find a place to stay.
Airbnb acts as a type of “do it yourself” home rental service. Travelers can search any city and see listings of people’s rooms or entire homes that they rent out for anywhere from 1 night to 1 year at a time. The company's emphasis is on "living like a local."
Now, years after the company began, Airbnb announced their most epic location yet. They revealed that they are opening up a room on the Great Wall of China, at least for four lucky winners!
They wrote, “2,600 years of history. 13,000 miles long, and one of the 7 wonders of the world.”
The company decided to host a competition that would award 4 lucky winners with the chance to stay the night at the Great Wall. In order to win, Airbnb users had to answer a simple question in 550 characters or less talking about why it’s important to break down cultural barriers.
