After TV Star Influenced Woman's Prison Release, Pres. Trump, Ivanka Speak Out

On Wednesday, June 6, President Trump granted clemency to Alice Marie Johnson, who had been serving a life sentence in prison. The 63-year-old grandmother was originally jailed for a first time, non-violent drug offense in the 1990s.

Last week, reality star and famous socialite Kim Kardashian visited the White House to have a meeting with President Trump. While some thought that she was networking because of her husband and Trump supporter, Kanye West, she was actually advocating on behalf of Johnson.

Kardashian had reportedly been extremely interested in prison reform, and when she found out about Alice Marie Johnson’s case, she couldn’t sit still. Both President Trump and Kim K. said that the meeting went extremely well and that there was hope for Johnson’s case.

As was previously reported, there were several other factors that played a role in Johnson’s case, all leading up to her clemency. Because her offense was a first-time, non-violent one, and because she showcased the necessary skills to be able to re-enter into and contribute to society, she was a “worthy clemency candidate.”

After the news was announced about Johnson’s clemency, Kim Kardashian spoke out on social media.

Additionally, both President Trump and Ivanka took to Twitter to congratulate Johnson on her newly found freedom as well, each wishing her the best in her future.

Congrats to Alice Marie Johnson! Let us know what you think! A video was just released that showed the first time Johnson was reunited with her family and the joy is undeniable!
