Last year Ryan Shazier suffered a serious spinal injury that crippled the NFL Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker. Devastating news for a person who depends on his body to keep his physical job.
The accident happened last December and since then, he’s been making slow progress. Recently, he wowed the crowd at the Steelers training camp.
Shazier was injured during a Monday Night Football game against the Bengals in Week 13 of the 2017 season. According to SB Nation, he was immobilized on a backboard and carted off the field.
He missed out on the rest of the season. As he was forced into a wheelchair, the pro athlete remained humble, writing on Instagram, “I want to thank the Lord for the first downs that he has been allowing me to achieve.”
By February he was standing. He posted his most encouraging picture of himself yet, showing his recovery – standing with the help of a teammate. He wrote, “I’ve had a lot of 1st downs at UPMC, but you know being the defensive guy I am, my mind is on 3 and out. With that being said, I want everyone to know that I’m moving on to the next step of the process.”
On Friday, Shazier was able to walk across the field at a Steelers practice without a cane in front of a cheering crowd.
Although Shazier will miss the 2018 football season, he hopes to make a return to the gridiron as soon as he can. Truly a miracle.
Praise the Lord for this miracle, and keep fighting, Ryan! In recent news, great news for George Clooney just three weeks after his tragic motorcycle accident.
