President Trump's former attorney, Michael Cohen is in over his head in a pool of boiling hot water due to his recent actions.
Recordings of privileged conversations between President Trump and Cohen were recently released to CNN by Cohen's attorney, Lanny Davis. The tapes were confiscated from Cohen's office in an FBI raid earlier in the year and reportedly reveal them discussing buying the rights to Karen McDougal's story in which she alleges that Trump and her had engaged in an extramarital affair over a decade ago.
If the blatant disregard of attorney - client privilege wasn't damaging enough to Cohen's future as a lawyer, he stepped up his attack on President Trump by reportedly throwing him under the bus. The NY Post reported that Cohen is now willing to testify that President Trump had advance knowledge of a June 9, 2016 meeting in which Donald Trump Jr attended and met with a Russian lawyer who claimed to have opposition research on Hillary Clinton. Donald Trump, a candidate at that time, did not attend the meeting and has held firm that he never knew about the meeting until it was revealed to him by his son. The meeting also yielded no opposition research on Clinton.
Cohen's attack caught President Trump's attention and quickly he fired back. ".....I did NOT know of the meeting with my son, Don jr," Trump tweeted. "Sounds to me like someone is trying to make up stories in order to get himself out of an unrelated jam (Taxi cabs maybe?). He even retained Bill and Crooked Hillary’s lawyer. Gee, I wonder if they helped him make the choice!"
President Trump raises some interesting questions with his tweet. Most importantly, whom are we supposed to believe? President Trump or Michael Cohen? If you answer is Michael Cohen, are we supposed to believe the suddenly anti-Trump Michael Cohen or the Michael Cohen whom issued many consistent denials prior to that?
For the meeting in question, Cohen had previously praised Donald Trump Jr. for telling the truth to the American people about the meeting. "So proud of @DonaldJTrumpJr for being open, honest and transparent to the American people. This nonsense needs to stop!" Cohen tweeted in July of 2017.
In addition to the tweet praising Donald Trump Jr, many old tweets have been unearthed showing Cohen's belief that the investigation into President Trump is a massive scam:
Who do you believe?
