In Aftermath of Lead Singer's Tragic Death, Linkin Park Receives Joyful News

In July, the lead singer of popular alternative rock band Linkin Park committed suicide. Chester Bennington was 41 years old at the time of his death.

Bennington had been open about his ongoing battle with depression, though his death came as a shock to all. In the days following his death, his fellow band members released a statement

They said, “Dear Chester, Our hearts are broken. The shockwaves of grief and denial are still sweeping through our family as we come to grips with what has happened. You touched so many lives, maybe even more than you realized. In the past few days, we’ve seen an outpouring of love and support, both public and private, from around the world. Talinda and the family appreciate it, and want the world to know that you were the best husband, son, and father; the family will never be whole without you.”

“Talking with you about the years ahead together, your excitement was infectious," they continued. "Your absence leaves a void that can never be filled—a boisterous, funny, ambitious, creative, kind, generous voice in the room is missing. We’re trying to remind ourselves that the demons who took you away from us were always part of the deal. After all, it was the way you sang about those demons that made everyone fall in love with you in the first place. You fearlessly put them on display, and in doing so, brought us together and taught us to be more human. You had the biggest heart, and managed to wear it on your sleeve.”

“Our love for making and performing music is inextinguishable. While we don’t know what path our future may take, we know that each of our lives was made better by you. Thank you for that gift. We love you, and miss you so much. Until we see you again, LP," they concluded.

Several days after Bennington's death, something unexpected happened to the band. Their music began rapidly climbing the charts.

Nielson Music said, "In the latest evidence of sales spiking, nine of the band’s albums are featured in the U.K.’s Official Chart Update just released. U.S. sales have already risen by some 5,300%."

Many fans began listening to the band's music again, especially their older hits that are now saturated with nostalgia. Forbes reported that right after Bennington's death, the band's 2001 album made No. 3 on the U.K. "midweek" chart, followed by their most recent album at No. 5 and their 2003 album at No. 7.

Now, a few months after their lead singer's passing and only a day after they began rehearsing again, Linkin Park has received some good news about their music. The American Music Award nominees were announced on Thursday morning, and the band received a nomination.

Linkin Park was nominated for "Favorite Artist- Alternative Rock," along with Imagine Dragons and Twenty-One Pilots. In years past, the band has won 5 AMAs and has been nominated an additional 4 times. If they win, it will be the first award that the band has received since the 2014 MTV Europe Music Awards.

While Linkin Park continues to mourn their lead singer's death, hopefully this good news brings some joy to them. Please continue praying for Bennington's band members and family.
