Recently, the nation has called for dozens of sports figures to apologize for kneeling during the national anthem. However, one megastar just apologized for how she sand the anthem!
The famous singer from the Black Eyed Peas, Fergie, became a major target on social media for her rendition of the national anthem. Haters were quick to blast her for her vocals and the video quickly went viral.
The incident happened at the NBA All-Star game where iconic players were set to face off in a fun match. Some of the players were unable to hold straight faces as she sung, some even laughing.
Now, Fergie is speaking out. She says she was simply taking a risk with how she wanted to perform the anthem and how she wanted it to sound. She says she didn't mean any disrespect and was trying to the best of her ability.
"I've always been honored and proud to perform the national anthem and last night I wanted to try something special for the NBA. I'm a risk-taker artistically, but clearly, this rendition didn't strike the intended tone. I love this country and honestly tried my best," she said.
"Here’s the thing. While Fergie’s anthem rendition fell flat, I give her enormous credit for owning it & saying she tried her best. No excuses or lashing out at the millions of critics who couldn’t sing 1 word of that song in key. Give her a break. She won me over today," wrote Len Kasper on Twitter.
