On early Friday morning, sad news emerged that popular British actor Leslie Grantham passed away. The soap actor was best known for his role as “Dirty” Den Watts in “EastEnders.”
Earlier this week, it was revealed that Grantham was “fighting for his life” after becoming ill. At this point, details of the illness have not been confirmed.
On Monday, a source said, “Leslie is being looked after. Those who are close to him are hugely worried and are praying for his well-being.”
Sadly, the 71-year-old took his final breath on Friday morning. Now, people are speaking out about the actor who once had a TV audience of 30-million on Christmas Day in 1986.
While Grantham’s acting career was impressive, especially with that massive viewer rating in 1986, his life was riddled with extreme controversy. Years before he rose to fame in acting and when he was serving as a soldier, he was convicted of murdering a German taxi driver. Grantham served 10 years in prison for that crime.
In 2004 after finding a lot of success with “EastEnders,” his character was written off the show following another major scandal involving promiscuous content online.
According to the Guardian, Grantham found his passion for acting while he was behind bars. He acted in several plays and then joined a London drama school following his release. It was there that he met Jane Laurie. The couple got married in 1981 but ended up getting a divorce in 2013.
While “EastEnders” was his most prominent TV show, he also acted in several other films and TV shows as well, including “Doctor Who.”
Most recently, the actor was living in Bulgaria. However, he ended up returning to the UK because of his declining health.
Though his life was filled with controversy, a loss of any kind is difficult to experience. Please be praying for his family and friends during this time. Share your prayers with us!
