During her interview with OprahAdele She spoke out about her divorce. Simon Konecki–a theme that’s expected to come up in her upcoming 30 album. She shared her initial regret over the divorce of her relationship with husband, saying:

“I’ve been obsessed with a nuclear family my whole life because I never came from one. Since a very young age [I] promised myself that, when I had kids, we’d stay together. And I tried for a really, really long time.”

She added:

“I take marriage very seriously… and it seems like I don’t now. It was almost like I disrespected marriage by getting married and then divorcing so quickly. I’m embarrassed because it was so quick.”

Adele also said that, while her divorce stirred up negative emotions, it also inspired her to exercise more–helping with her famous weight loss:

“I had the most terrifying anxiety attacks after I left my marriage. They paralyzed me completely and made me so confused because I wouldn’t be able to have any control over my body. [Going to the gym] really contributed towards me getting my mind right.”

While we are on the topic of her weight loss Adele also addressed some fans’ backlash to her slimming down:

“I’m not shocked or even fazed by it because my body has been objectified my entire career. I’m either too big or too small; I’m either hot or I’m not. But it’s not my job to validate how people feel about their bodies. I feel bad that it’s made anyone feel horrible about themselves–but that’s not my job. I’m trying to sort my own life out. I can’t add another worry. “

“We went out for dinner, which he says was a business meeting. I’m like, a business meeting about what? We wouldn’t be having a meeting about business. And then it was just the first time we’d hung out only on our own, and not with other friends and stuff like that. This was a natural way to meet. I think that’s how people would normally meet each other, like, in real life.”

She continued, stating that her relationship with Rich Paul helped her learn to “love herself.” Adele also dished on the sports agent’s personality:

“He’s just hilarious. Oh, he’s so funny. Yeah, and very smart.”
