American actor Lou Diamond Phillips was arrested around 1:30 AM on Friday, November 3rd in Portland, Texas. The actor is famously known for his starring role in “La Bamba,” but has also made dozens of other movie and television appearances including “Young Guns,” “Longmire,” and “Courage Under Fire.”
According to ABC News, Phillips was arrested on a DWI charge, “driving while intoxicated.” He actually was not pulled over, but the arrest came after Phillips approached a police officer to ask for directions.
The officer reportedly had reason to believe that Phillips was drinking alcohol, which he was correct. After he failed sobriety testing, Phillips' blood alcohol level came back at .20 percent, which is more than double the legal limit for driving (.08).
Bail was posted shortly after Phillip’s arrest and he was released within hours.
Later on Friday, Phillips made a public apology regarding his arrest, which resulted in a Class A misdemeanor.
He stated, “I want to sincerely apologize for an incident this morning, some of you may have heard about that.”
When a reporter asked exactly what happened, the 55-year-old actor replied, “It was a lapse in judgment obviously, I did not think I was in that state because I approached the cop,” he chuckled. “I thought I was fine; he obviously thought otherwise.”
Phillips continued, “It was a mistake. It was stupid of me. I regret it. It will never happen again.”
